Erskine comes up short against FMU

Box Score Florence, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet came up short against the Patriots of Francis Marion University 3 to 1 (25-20, 29-27, 27-29, and 25-11) this afternoon at the Smith University Center in non-conference women's volleyball action.

After falling behind by eleven points in the first set, the Flying Fleet (1-4) stormed back to close within two points at 22-20 but the Patriots won the last three points to clinch the first set.  In the second set, the Fleet broke a tie game at 16-16 with a five point run.  The Patriots slowly climbed back into the game, forcing extra points before winning the second set 29-27.  The Fleet repaid the favor in the third set, rebounding to win it 29-27.  In the final set, the Fleet could not overcome an early deficit as the Patriots cruised to a 25-11 win.

Junior Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) had a season-high 15 kills while freshman A.J. Campbell (Pilot Point, TX, Pilot Point HIgh School) also knocked down15 kills, a career high.  Bullock also had 14 digs.  Junior setter Megan Johnson (Little River, SC, Scholars Academy) earned her first career double-double with a career-high 40 assists and a team-high 21 digs.

For the Patriots, Emily Sears had a game-high 18 kills along with 7 digs.  Jessica Imbimbo and Alexzandra Reed contributed 11 kills each.

Erskine will look to snap their 3-game losing skid next weekend as they open conference play against Barton College and Mt. Olive College.
