Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet lost to #23 North Georgia 7 to 2 in non-conference men’s tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Complex.
The Fleet found themselves in a hole early after losing all three doubles matches, including two heart-breaking matches 8-6. Sophomore
Wilson Mathewes (Simpsonville, SC, USC-Lancaster) and freshman
Dean Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) lost at #2 doubles to Sam Gantt and Giovani Santos while freshman
Alan Pearce (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) and senior
Matthew Twitty (West Columbia, SC, USC-Lancaster) fell at #3 doubles by the same score to Anthony Veryard and Matheus Pineda.
In the singles matches, both Mathewes and Harris won their first matches as members of the Flying Fleet. Mathewes topped Santos in straight sets at #3 singles and Harris beat Gantt 7-5, 6-1 at #4 singles.
Erskine travels to archrival Anderson University on Tuesday. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
