Erskine loses to Belmont Abbey 3-0

Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet lost 3-0 to the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey tonight in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action at Belk Arena.

The Fleet hung with the first place Crusaders in through the first two sets. In the first set, Erskine grabbed the first significant lead of the set at 17-12 on a kill by Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School), who had seven kills in the set. The Abbey bounced back to tie and take a three point lead behind the serving of Ana Maria Pagan. The Abbey won the set 25 to 20.

The second set was an old-fashion grudge match with neither team holding more than a three point lead. The Abbey won the last two points to win the set 25 to 23.

In the third set, Belmont Abbey used a 7-0 run to take a nine point lead at 22-13. The Abbey won the set 25 to 17 to win the match in straight sets.

Bullock had a game-high 16 kills along with 4 digs and 2 blocks to lead the Fleet. Megan Johnson (Little River, SC, Scholars Academy) finished with a double-double with 13 assists and 11 digs and combined with fellow setter Catherine Hurt (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) for 32 assists, 12 digs, and a block. Senior libero Anna Butrym (West Columbia, SC, White Knoll High School) had a game-high 16 digs.

For the Abbey, Hannah Schellenberg earned a double-double with a team-high 11 kills and a game-high 16 digs.

Erskine is back in action tomorrow against Pfeiffer University. Game time is set for noon.
