Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine stunned their second conference opponent of the weekend, upsetting Mt. Olive 3-2 (20-25, 27-25, 22-25, 25-12, 15-6) this afternoon in women's volleyball action at Belk Arena.
With the two wins this weekend, Erskine (5-11, 4-5) moved from 8
th place in the conference standings into a three-way tie for fifth place with Mt. Olive College and Converse.
After losing two of the first three sets, Erskine kicked into high gear with two dominating wins in the final two sets. In the fourth set, the Fleet used a 10-4 run to take a 20-10 lead behind a balanced attack that featured kills by four different Fleet players. Erskine breezed to a 25-12 victory.
In the final set, Erskine continued to apply the defensive pressure leaping out to a 7-2 lead and forcing Mt. Olive to take a timeout. Erskine did not let up and cruised to another dominating victory at 15-6. Erskine limited Mt. Olive to just four kills in the last two sets.
Junior
Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) again led the Fleet earning her fourth double-double of the season with a game-high 16 kills and 13 digs. She also had two blocks. Freshman
A.J. Campbell (Pilot Point, TX, Pilot Point HIgh School) produced an efficient 7 kills on just 20 attempts. Senior
Anna Butrym (West Columbia, SC, White Knoll High School) controlled the back row with a game-high 21 digs.
Carly White and Dezirae Mackey led Mt. Olive with 10 kills each while setter Nicole Karas turned in her own double-double of 29 assists and a team-high 18 digs.
Erskine will look to extend the winning streak to three games on Tuesday against Lees-McRae College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
