Erskine runs away from LMC 68 to 56

Box Score Banner Elk, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (11-4, 7-4) won their third game in a row, running away from conference foe Lees-McRae (1-15, 1-9) 68 to 56 in men’s basketball action at Williams Gymnasium.

Erskine’s defensive effort bailed out a poor shooting night.  The Fleet forced the Bobcats to commit 22 turnovers while holding them to 19 of 43 shooting from the field, including an anemic 5 of 20 from behind the arc.  The Fleet were actually worse, going just 20 of 58 from the floor and just 5 of 23 from 3-point range.  However, the Fleet did shoot a season-high 85% (23 of 27) from the charity stripe.

Freshman Roderick Perkins (Smyrna, GA, Campbell High School) was a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line in leading the Fleet with a game-high 18 points.  JuniorDeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School) notched his fourth “double-double” of the season with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.  He was also a perfect 5 from 5 from the free throw line.  Junior Mike Gabbard (Erlanger, KY, Boone County High School) and senior Corey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Holy Cross High School) also reached double-digits, scoring 12 points each.

The Bobcats’ Charles Clarke came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points and Daniel Sepokas contributed 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Erskine travels to Wilson, North Carolina, this Saturday to face the conference-leading Bulldogs of Barton College.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
