Box Score Banner Elk, NC – The Flying Fleet lost to Lees-McRae College 3-1 (25-19, 25-14, 19-25, 25-21) to conclude their two-day road trip in women’s volleyball action. Erskine came back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Limestone 3-2 last night.
Erskine (3-7, 3-2) struggled offensively this afternoon with no single player reaching double-digits in kills and committing 21 attack errors as a team. Lees-McRae (6-6, 3-2) had .276 hitting percentage compared to the Fleet’s .074 hitting percentage. Senior
Larz Chabra (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) led the Fleet attack from her setter position with a team-high 8 kills, 20 assists and 5 digs.
Despite the offensive struggles, the Fleet kept themselves in the match with their outstanding defensive play. Three players recorded 10 or more digs while the Fleet had 5 team blocks. Senior defensive specialist
Bailey Thornton (Pauline, SC, Dorman High School) led the back row for the second straight game with a game-high 16 digs while fellow seniors
Liz Massey (Greenville, SC, Eastside High School) and
Lauren Stewart (Hartwell, GA, Hart County High School) each had 11 digs. Freshman
Kelly Sullivan (Wellington, FL, Wellington Community High School) had 4 blocks to her credit.
Meanwhile the Bobcats had four players earn double-digit kills, led by Taylor Clendinen’s game-high16 kills and 11 digs. Taylor Prichett also earned a “double-double” with 47 assists and 11 digs.
Erskine stays on the road travelling to Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Tuesday to play the Valkyries of Converse College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
