Box Score Augusta, GA – Playing their fifth straight road game, the Erskine Flying Fleet lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18) to the Jaguars of Augusta State University in non-conference women’s volleyball action at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The loss drops the Fleet to 0-5 on the young season while the Jaguars improve to 5-3 overall.
After trailing by five early in the opening set, the Fleet twice cut the lead to two and three points respectively before the Jags closed out the set with a 6-3 run. Senior
Larz Chabra (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) had four of her five kills from her setter position in the set.
After exchanging points to begin the second set, ASU exploded on a 10-2 run forcing Coach Heather Vahjen to call time out. Erskine rebounded to climb back to within four points at 19-15 coercing ASU into a timeout. The Jags responded to win the set on a 6-2 run.
In the third set, ASU clung to small lead until late when used a 4-0 burst, led by Alex Rohlfing’s two kills, to win the set and match.
Sophomore
Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) led the Fleet with 9 kills while Chabra had 14 assists and 8 digs in addition to her 5 kills. Senior
Brooke Dodge (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) led the backrow with 10 digs for Erskine.
ASU’s Kristen Koch was the only player for either team to reach double-digits in kills with a game-high 14. Defensively Collette Richards had a game-high 18 digs.
The Fleet finally return to the friendly confines of Belk Arena, hosting conference foes Barton College on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Mount Olive College on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. Admission is free to all home Erskine volleyball matches.
