Misenheimer, N.C. – Needing a win to secure a spot in the conference tournament, the Erskine men’s tennis team defeated Pfeiffer University 6-3 at the Knapp Tennis Center. With the victory, the Flying Fleet (5-16, 3-7) secure the #8 seed in this weekend’s tournament to held at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.
Erskine took an early 2-1 lead winning both #2 and #3 doubles.
Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and
Connor Roy (Greenville, SC, Travelers Rest High School) beat Luis Villata and Orlando Castillo 8-4 while
Angelo Ciarrocchi (Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Theodor Herzl High School) and
James Hoatson (Harding, South Africa, Maritzburg High School)partnered to defeat Diego Oliveira and Ethon Lyon 8-3.
The Fleet continued to play well in the singles competition winning four of the six matches. Seniors Ciarrocchi and
Vincent Chauvette (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe-Levy) both won the last regular season matches while sophomore Jack West edged Sebastian Wernecke 7-6, 6-3 at #2 singles. Freshman
Connor Roy (Greenville, SC, Travelers Rest High School) continued his impressive play with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Stephen Miller.
Erskine will face #1 seed Limestone College on Friday starting noon. Erskine lost to Limestone 8-1 back on March 27
th.
