Quarles scores season-best 18 points in win over LMC

Box Score Due West, SC – Senior Brandon Quarles (Landrum, SC, Landrum High School)scored a season-best 18 points while grabbing a team-high 9 rebounds in a 69-61 victory over conference opponent Lees-McRae College tonight at Belk Arena.  With the win, Erskine moves to 7-16 overall and 3-9 in conference.   The Bobcats see their record dip to 7-14 overall and 7-7 in conference with the loss.

Trailing by two late in the first half, Quarles scored ten consecutive points to put the Fleet up by eight points at 28-20.  Sophomore Casey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Simon Kenton High School) followed with a jumper to cap the Fleet run.  LMC’s Jeremiah Henry made two free throws in the final minute to make the score 30-22 in favor of the Fleet at halftime.

The closest Lees-McRae got to taking the lead back was six points to open the second half.  After a 3-point basket by Erskine’s Corey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Holy Cross High School) to start the half, the Bobcats scored the next five points on a 3-point shot by D.J. Battle and a layup by Henry off a Fleet turnover.  Erskine quickly rebuilt their lead back to eleven points on back-to-back driving layups by Casey Sorrell.  Erskine kept a eight to ten point lead for most of the half winning the game by eight, 69-61.

Casey Sorrell also finished with 18 points on a perfect 6-6 from the field, including two 3-point baskets, along with 4 of 6 from the free throw line.  Fellow sophomore DeShaun Hall (Inman, SC, Landrum High School) had a solid all-around game with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists while Corey Sorrell knocked 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. 

The Bobcats got 12 points from both Daniel Sepokas and Henry.  DeAndre Tillman had a game-high ten rebounds with four points.

Erskine’s next game is at home this Saturday against Pfeiffer University.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
