Erskine breezes past Limestone 3-0

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine breezed past the Saints of Limestone College 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-18) in Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball action at Belk Arena.

Senior Lauren Stewart (Hartwell, GA, Hart County High School) and freshman Kelly Sullivan (Wellington, FL, Wellington Community High School) led the Fleet offense with 8 kills each.  Sullivan finished .438 hitting percentage while Stewart also had 9 digs and 2 blocks.  Senior Alicia Bragg (Rock Hill, SC, Rock Hill High School) and sophomore Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) had 7 kills each as Erskine used a balance attack.  Senior Brooke Dodge (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) had a game-high 13 digs on the night.

For the Saints, Emylee Gotsch and Regan Youngs each had a game-high 9 kills.  Jessica Onken had a game-high 27 assists with a team-high 9 digs.

In a game that lasted just over an hour, Erskine leapt out to quick leads in all three sets.  In the first set, the Fleet grabbed an early 5-1, highlighted by two kills by seniorLiz Massey (Greenville, SC, Eastside High School), and extended it to 9-2, capped by a service ace by Bullock, to force Limestone into a timeout.  Limestone tightened their defense but the damage had been done as Erskine cruised to a 25-15 first set victory.

After trailing early in the second set, Limestone climbed back into the match to tie the set at 20-20.  Stewart closed out the set for the Fleet with 2 of her 6 kills in the set as Erskine used a 4-1 run to win the set 25-21.

With victory close at hand, Erskine sprinted out to a 12-6 lead in the third and final set.  At that point both coaches began to empty their benches as Erskine won 25-18.  All 11 Erskine players played tonight.

Erskine now stands at 11-8 overall and 9-2 in conference.

Erskine hosts Lees-McRae College tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.  Admission is free to all home Erskine volleyball games.
