Due West, SC – The Erskine men’s tennis played their final regular season match today losing to Pfeiffer University 6 to 3. Erskine falls to 2-15 overall and 1-7 in conference. Pfeiffer moves to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in conference.
In doubles play, Erskine had two opportunities at #2 and #3 doubles to score a point. Jack West (Belton, SC, Emerald High School) and James Hoatson (Harding, South Africa, Maritzbourg High School) dropped the final game to lose the set 9-7 at #2 doubles and Angelo Ciarrocchi (Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Theodor Herzl High School) and Vincent Chauvette (Levis, Quebec, Canada, Ecole Pointe-Levy) could not overcome an early deficit losing 9 to 7 as well.
Erskine won three of the six singles matches. Christian Ranguelov (Vienna, Austria, Gen. Vladmir Stoychev)easily defeated his opponent 6-2 and 6-1 to earn Erskine a point. Jack West won a tight first set 6-4 and cruised to an easy 6-1 victory in the second set. At #5 singles, Vincent Chauvette quickly won his first set 6-1 but had to work to win the second set 6-4. James Hoatson played two tight sets at #6 singles but lost both 6-4 and 6-4.
Erskine enters the conference tournament this weekend as the #8 seed. The Fleet will play the conference regular season champion and #1 seed Queens University at 9 a.m. at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.
