Erskine's comeback falls short, losing 73-70 in OT

Harrogate, TN – Erskine’s comeback fell short as the Flying Fleet lost 73-70 in overtime to the Eagles of Carson-Newman College in the South Atlantic Conference-Conference Carolinas Challenge at Tex Turner Arena today.

After trailing by fifteen points at half, Erskine rallied to force overtime at 61-61.  For the opening period, Erskine shot just 21% from the floor.

In overtime, the game remained in doubt until the final seven seconds when CN’s Ishmael Sanders stole the ball for an easy layup to seal the 73-70 victory for the Eagles.

Junior Corey Sorrell (Walton, KY, Northern Kentucky University) led the Fleet in scoring and rebounding for the second consecutive night with 23 points and 8 rebounds.   Sophomore guard Mike Gabbard (Erlanger, KY, Western Kentucky University) tallied 18 points along with 7 assists and 7 rebounds while senior Filip Pejovic added 12 points.

Sanders led the Eagles in scoring with 26 points while teammate Antoine Davis had 23 points.

Erskine starts the season at 0-2, both losses coming in overtime.  Carson-Newman evens their record at 1-1 after losing to King College yesterday.

Erskine stays on the road to play archrival Anderson University on Wednesday, November 16th.  Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
