Due West, SC – On Senior Night, Erskine seniors Sandra Campbell (Pilot Point, TX, USC-Upstate) and Jamie Murray (Hermann, MO, East Central CC) knocked down 17 and 13 kills respectively to lead the Flying Fleet past the Valkyries of Converse College 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-15) in Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball action at Belk Arena. 

Erskine climbs to 18-12 overall and 13-3 in conference while Converse falls to 3-24 overall and 1-14 in conference.

After exchanging the first two points of the opening set, Converse rattled off three consecutive points to lead 4-1.  Erskine promptly came right back on a 4-0 run capped off by a kill from Murray.  Following a ball handling error by the Fleet, Erskine went on a 7-0 run to take a 12-5 lead.  Erskine kept firing offensively raking up 15 kills with just one error on 25 attack attempts to win the set 25-11.

In the next set, Erskine continued to score points in small groups gradually increasing their lead from 7-5 to a 25-15 victory.  Campbell and Murray combined for 5 and 4 kills respectively in the set.

Erskine continued to feed the ball to their two seniors in the final set.  Campbell had 7 kills while Murray added 5 kills.  Erskine won the set by the same score 25-15.

For the Fleet, Murray and Liz Massey (Greenville, SC, Eastside High School) both had a game-high 9 digs.

Val Thoms led the Valkyries with 7 kills and 8 digs.

Erskine goes on the road this weekend for their last two regular season matches.  On Friday Erskine plays at North Greenville University and travels to King College on Saturday.
