Charlotte, NC – The Erskine Flying Fleet lost in straight sets to host Queens University of Charlotte (25-20, 25-22, 25-16) in Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball action. The loss drops the Fleet (16-12, 11-3) into third place in the conference standings. Queens University moves to 17-7 overall and solo possession of second place in the conference at 11-2.
Erskine took an early 7-2 lead in the first set only to have Queens draw even at 15-15. Queens’ Keri Kemp put down two kills and Brittany Barron served an ace to put the Royals up by three points. It was all Queens needed to win the first set.
The second set was also close featuring six ties. Queens got three crucial kills in a row late to take the second set 25-22.
The third set was all Queens as they led by as many as 10 points on several occasions. Queens cruised to win the final set 25-16.
Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) and
Lauren Stewart (Hartwell, GA, Hart County High School) led the Fleet with 10 kills each while
Larz Chabra (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Wando High School) finished with 29 assists. Defensively
Brooke Dodge (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) had 16 digs and
Anna Butrym (West Columbia, SC, White Knoll High School) had 11 digs.
Keri Kemp finished with a game-high 11 kills and 3 blocks for Queens. On the back row, Brittney Barren had a game-high 17 digs.
Erskine will look to rebound today at home against Pfeiffer University. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
