Due West, SC – It appeared the Fleet would be in for an easy night winning the first two sets against Belmont-Abbey 25-17 and 25-13. The Crusaders rebounded to win the next two sets 20-25 and 26-28 and force the decisive fifth set. The Fleet kept their composure scoring the set's first seven points and cruised to a 15-5 victory to win the game 3 to 2. With the win, the Fleet improve to 2-0 in Conference Carolinas and 3-2 overall while Belmont-Abbey suffers their first loss of the season, dropping to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas.
The Fleet got a balanced attack led by junior Sandra Campbell (Pilot Point, TX/Pilot Point H.S.) with 8 kills and 6 blocks. Sophomore Lauren Stewart (Hartwell, GA/Hart Co. H.S.) also contributed 8 kills along with 3 blocks and junior Jamie Murray (Hermann, MO/Hermann H.S.) chipped in 7 kills and 2 blocks. Sophomores Brooke Dodge (Duncan, SC/Byrnes H.S.) and Julie Jackson (Greenville, SC/Southside Christian School) anchored the back row with 15 and 11 digs each.
The Fleet travel to USC-Aiken this weekend to participate in a four game tournament.
