WILSON, NC – Visiting Erskine outscored Barton 8-3 late in set four on Friday night and claimed a key 3-1 victory in Conference Carolinas volleyball action.
The Flying Fleet and Barton entered the match just a half-game apart and in second place in the league standings. Erskine rose to 9-5 overall and 7-1 in the conference with an 18-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-23 victory. Barton is now 7-7 overall and 5-2 in the league.
Sophomore setter Larz Chabra distributed the ball well for the Fleet and junior outside hitters Jamie Murray and Sandra Campbell provided the finishing blows with 14 and 12 kills respectively. Jamie Murray added 12 digs and seven blocks while Sandra Campbell had six blocks. As a team, Erskine recorded 25 blocks. Chabra netted 40 assists, five kills, four digs and three blocks.
Barton got 16 kills, 14 digs and two blocks from senior outside hitter Mel Ritter (Wescosville, PA) and 14 kills, 12 digs and two aces from sophomore outside hitter Kati Wood (Pasadena, MD).
The Fleet finish their two-game road trip against Mount Olive College on Saturday.
