Erskine Volleyball Goes 2-2 at USC-Aiken Tournament

Aiken, SC – The Erskine Volleyball Team won their first two games in the USC-Aiken Invitational Tournament before dropping their last two games to finish 2-2 on the weekend.

The Fleet opened the tournament against conference foe Limestone College.  The Fleet dropped the first two sets, 22-25 and 18-25.  The Fleet came roaring back in the third set winning 25-20 then won a hard-fought fourth set 27-25 to set up the decisive fifth match.  The Fleet prevailed in five winning the last set 15-12.

Sophomore Lauren Stewart (Hartwell, GA/Hart Co. H.S.) led the Fleet attack with 15 kills on 29 attempts.  Junior Jamie Murray (Hermann, MO/Hermann H.S.) also contributed 11 kills along with 8 kills.  Defensively, Sandra Campbell (Pilot Pointe, TX/Pilot Pointe H.S.) continued her dominating play on the net with 7 blocks.  On the back row, libero Brooke Dodge (Duncan, SC/Byrnes H.S.) led the Fleet with 18 digs.

In the second game, the Fleet had little difficulty dispatching Concord University winning the game in three sets 25-16, 25-19 and 25-23.  Outside hitter Lauren Stewart once again led the offense with 11 kills on just 19 attempts.   Jamie Murray continued her outstanding all-around play, just missing a double-double with 9 kills and 8 digs.  Senior Alison Albers (Goodhue, MN/Goodhue H.S.) had 5 blocks for the Fleet.  The Fleet also had an impressive 8 service aces against Concord.

Saturday’s games did not go well for the Flying Fleet.  The Fleet played the University of Montevallo losing in straight sets 25-19, 25-19, and 25-21.  No stats were available at the time of this release.

The Fleet finished the tournament against host USC-Aiken.  USC-Aiken overpowered the Fleet 25-15, 25-13, and 25-17.  Sandra Campbell led the Fleet with 6 kills and 2 blocks.

The Fleet are now 5-4 overall and 3-0 in Conference Carolinas.  The Fleet travel to Converse College on Tuesday.  First serve is set for 7 p.m.
