Due West, SC – Erskine’s Liz Massey powered the Fleet past Converse College 3 to 0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-18) at Belk Arena in Conference Carolinas volleyball action. Massey (Greenville, SC, Eastside High School)earned her first “double-double” of the season with 10 kills and 15 digs. She also had two blocks. The Fleet snapped a three game losing streak with the victory and improved to 15-8 overall and 10-3 in conference. Converse drops to 3-18 overall and 2-11 in conference play.
The Fleet ran away with the first set opening up a seven point lead midway through the set behind three kills by junior Sandra Campbell (Pilot Point, TX, Point Pilot HS).
The Fleet sprinted out to another seven point lead early in the second set only to see Converse close to within three at 21-18. The Fleet swapped points with the Valkyries to close out the set 25-21. Erskine freshmanMary Crawford James (Mt. Pleasant, SC, Bishop England High School) had five of her seven kills in the second set.
The third set was highlighted by Brooke Dodge’s three consecutive service aces as the Fleet cruised to the 25-18 win. Dodge (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) finished with 6 aces on just 13 service attempts in the game.
The Fleet are off until next Wednesday, October 27th, when they face archrival Anderson University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
