Erskine Pounds Lees-McRae

Due West, SC - The Flying Fleet pounded Lees-McRae College tonight 68 to 45 in Conference Carolinas basketball action.  The Fleet took an early lead behind three pointers by Dejan Nedelkovski (Skopjie, Macedonia/Ancilla Junior College) and Marko Latinovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Phoenix Junior College) and freshman Chris Gore (Myrtle Beach, SC/Myrtle Beach H.S.)made back to back layups in the low post to give the Fleet a 14 to 6 lead.  The Fleet stretched their lead to ten by halftime, leading 38 to 28.

Erskine scored thirteen points to the start the second half and lengthened their lead to 51 to 28.  Lees-McRae's Sean Hardin hit a three pointer to give the Bobcats their first points of the half and start an 11-0 Bobcat run.  That would be as close as the Bobcats would get as the Fleet defense held the Bobcats scoreless over the next seven minutes and surged to over a twenty point lead.  The Fleet cruised to a 68 to 45 victory.

On the evening, the Fleet shot 48% from the field, including 45% from 3 point range.  Erskine would hold the Bobcats to just 31% shooting.  Leading the Fleet was Brandon Wright (Goose Creek, SC/Goose Creek H.S.) with 19 points and 7 rebounds.  Dejan Nedelkovski and Chris Gore also contributed 14 points and 10 points respectively.  The Bobcats were led by Sean Hardin with 12 points and Jesse Hoots with 11 points.

Prior to the game, Erskine honored Queens University student, Majorie Whitney, with a moment of silence.  Ms. Whitney, a freshman on the women's golf team, died from injuries suffered in a car accident Tuesday morning.

Erskine improves to 3-5 (1-3) while Lees-McRae College falls to 1-9 (0-5) on the season.  Erskine hosts Saint Andrews Presbyterian College on Saturday with game time set for 4 p.m.
