Erskine Volleyball Plays First Game!

Due West, SC – Erskine Volleyball took the court for the first time in twelve years yesterday afternoon against the defending Peach Belt champion Armstrong Atlantic State University.  The Lady Fleet would lose their first two games, 25-18 and 25-16, before bouncing back to take a hard fought third game 25-21.  Unfortunately, Armstrong Atlantic quickly regrouped to win the fourth and decisive game 25-13.  “We played well against a very good team,” commented Coach Heather Vahjen.  “I am proud of the effort we put forth.”

Liz Massey (Greenville, SC/Eastside H.S.) led the Lady Fleet with 8 kills, 2 blocks, and a couple of digs while Lauren Stewart (Hartwell, GA/ Hart Co. H.S.) also contributed 7 kills, 1 block, a dig and a service ace.  Larz Chabra (Mt. Pleasant, SC/Wando H.S.) did an effective job running the Fleet attack with 23 assists.  Defensively, Bailey Thornton (Pauline, SC/Dorman H.S.) led the team with 5 digs.

“By playing such a good team, we now know what we need to improve upon in practice to get better,” stated Coach Vahjen.  The Lady Fleet face West Alabama in their second game of the Anderson Invitational Tournament.
