Due West, SC – The Trojans of Mt. Olive overwhelmed the young Fleet team today winning the match in 3 straight (21-25, 12-25, 22-25). With the loss, Erskine drops to 6-5 in Conference Carolinas, 8-12 overall while Mt. Olive improves to 9-2 in conference action and 9-14 overall.
In the first set, Mt. Olive quickly jumped out to a 10 to 4 lead on several Erskine miscues, forcing Erskine Coach Heather Vahjen to take a timeout. The Fleet regrouped and went on a 5 point run to close to within 3 at 18 to 21. The Trojans would hold off the Fleet to win the set 25 to 21.
The Mt. Olive attack hit full gear with the start of the 2nd set. Behind the play of Racey Bartley and Alicia Mote, Mt. Olive raced out to a 9 to 2 lead. Following a timeout, Erskine made a short run to close within 3 at 11 to 14. But, once again, the Mt. Olive attack, led by Racey Bartley, would prove too much for the Fleet winning the game 25 to 12.
Erskine made it interesting in the 3rd set as both teams traded points throughout the set. In the end, Mt. Olive edged Erskine 25 to 22 to win the set and match.
On the day, Lauren Stewart (Hartwell, GA/Hart Co. HS) would lead the Fleet attack with 10 kills while Brooke Dodge (Duncan, SC/Byrnes H.S.) had 11 digs. Leading the Trojans was Racey Bartley with 16 kills and 5 blocks.
