CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Erskine College women's basketball team (4-13, 2-9 CC) defeated Johnson & Wales University (13-6) by a score of 61-58 at the JWU Wildcat Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Fleet trailed 45-34 going into the fourth quarter, but started the final period on a 10-0 run to get back into the game. A steal and a layup just past the halfway point from freshman
Jakayla Lorick gave the Fleet their first lead since the opening minutes of the game. A three-pointer from
Mariah Moody stretched the lead out to eight, and the senior made two clutch free throws in the final second as Erskine rallied back for an impressive win away from home.

Senior guard
Mariah Moody finished with 11 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and a team-high 5 steals, as her impact on both ends helped fuel the Fleet's fourth-quarter comeback. Moody's only three-pointer of the afternoon gave Erskine a 57-49 lead with 3:05 remaining, and then Moody made a pair of free throws in the final second to put the finishing touches on the victory.
THE TEAM
Erskine shot 34% (21-61) from the field and 25% (4-16) from the three-point line. However, the Hawks held 19 to 5 advantage in second chance points. The Fleet forced 25 turnovers and held a significant 18 to 8 advantage in points off turnovers.
WHAT'S NEXT?Â
Erskine starts a three-game homestand all next week, as the Fleet welcome in the Conference Carolinas leaders, Belmont Abbey College (16-3, 10-1 CC) on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
