HOW IT HAPPENED
On the road to open the 2024 campaign, Erskine and Bob Jones played in cagey affair in the early stages.
Evan Williams got off the Fleet's first shot of the season in the 21st minute, but seven minutes later, Matthias Baladi found a breakthrough for the hosts. Junior forward
Bailey Hall notched Erskine's first shot on target in the closing stages of the first half, but the Bruins keeper was equal to it, sending the match to the half with Bob Jones holding a 1-0 lead. However, just 80 seconds into the second period, BJU doubled its lead.
Maximus Moriarty and
Andreas Aspris each got off shots in the second half, but the Fleet were unable to find their way back into the match as Erskine was beaten in its season opener, 2-0.
THE TEAM
Erskine was outshot by Bob Jones 19 to 4, and the Bruins had a 4 to 1 advantage in shots on target.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine has its home opener and conference opener next Saturday when the University of Mount Olive (0-1) comes to town, with the match scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. UMO won the last meeting between the teams back in 2022. But, Erskine took down the Trojans the last time they met in Due West, a 4-2 win in 2019, as the Fleet overcame an early 2-0 deficit in that match.
