Erskine Women's Basketball | Cook, Fleet flirt with road upset over division-leading Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Erskine College women's basketball team (3-11, 1-6 CC) was defeated by Emmanuel University (11-5, 7-1 CC) by a score of 59-56 at the Shaw Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.

Anzya Cook led the Fleet with a team-high 24 points, helping Erskine hang around and even threaten the Southwest Divison leaders in Conference Carolinas. Erskine outscored the Lions by 8 in the third quarter and led by two possessions in the final minutes, but Emmanuel closed the game on an 11-4 run as the Fleet came up just short on the road.

THE PLAYER
Senior guard Anzya Cook had by far her best offensive night of the year on Tuesday, totaling a season-high 24 points, including 4 made threes. Cook also added a team-leading 7 rebounds and a steal.

THE TEAM
Erskine shot just 34% (19-56) from the field, and 31% (8-26) from the three-point line, as well as 67% (10-15) from the free throw line. The difference came at the free throw line, where Erskine was minus-15, and the Fleet were called for 26 fouls to just 11 for the Lions.

WHAT'S NEXT? 
Erskine stays on the road this weekend and awaits another tall test against Conference Carolinas power, Belmont Abbey College (11-5, 5-1 CC) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
