DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College women's basketball team (1-0) defeated Johnson & Wales University (2-1) by a score of 64-58 to begin the 2023-24 season and the head coaching era for Lisa Jackson.

Erskine was led by sophomore Albany Wilson, who totaled a game-high 16 points, while senior Anzya Cook added 15 points, including four clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Erskine jumped out to an early lead and maintained it for most of the night. But, JWU tied the game at 38 with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter. However, the Fleet responded with an 11-4 run to take a three-possession lead and held on for a season-opening win.

THE PLAYER
In her first game of her sophomore season, Albany Wilson set a new career-high with 16 points on 6-14 shooting from the field, including making her first two three-pointers of the night. Wilson also added 6 rebounds and a steal to her stat line.

THE TEAM
Erskine shot 32% (23-72) from the field and 19% (5-27) from three-point range, along with 50% (13-26) from the free throw line. The Fleet defense forced 29 turnovers and converted it into 24 points, while also getting 34 points from its bench.

WHAT'S NEXT? 
Erskine goes to Winthrop University (0-2) for an exhibition against the Division-I Eagles on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The next official game for the Fleet is a home contest against Newberry the following Tuesday, November 21st, at 6 p.m.
