DUE WEST- The King Tornado held off a valiant effort by Erskine on Wednesday to earn a hard fought 61-59 win over the Fleet at Belk Arena.
Zyria Gay pulled the Fleet to within four points at 61-57 with 34 seconds remaining on a layup in the lane. After a Tornado turnover freshman
Osha Makerson hit a layup to make it it 61-59 with seven seconds remaining but after two missed free throws by King, the Fleet could not manage a shot in the final five seconds.
Alexis Scott led the Fleet with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Makerson added 14 points and 5 assists while Gay added 8 points and 11 rebounds. Erskine led 25-20 at the half before the Tornado outscored 23-13 in teh 3rd period.
