Due West, SC – The Erskine College Flying Fleet were defeated tonight 78-68 at the hands of the Emmanuel College Lions. This loss snaps an 8 game win streak for the Fleet and moves them to 10-10 overall and 9-5 in Conference Carolinas action.
The first quarter in Belk Arena ended in a 14-14 tie. The scoring was back and forth with the largest lead being a 12-9 advantage for Emmanuel.
Kristin Giles led the Fleet with 5 points and 3 rebounds. The second quarter was mainly controlled by Emmanuel. The Lions took a 33-27 lead going into halftime. Elise Coberly contributed 17 of the Lions 33 points and led the team with 9 rebounds.
Kristin Giles led the Fleet in points and rebounds with 7 and 6 respectively. The Fleet shot 26.5% and 1-11 from 3-point land, while Emmanuel shot 34.5% and 3-11 from behind the arc in the first half.
The Fleet caught fire in the third quarter outscoring the Lions 25-15.

Naomi Stuger had 8. Erskine picked up the intensity on the defensive end and it led to a couple of easy buckets on the offensive end. The Lions outscored the Fleet 30-16 in the final quarter. What was once an 8 point Erskine lead was all gone around the 2:00 mark of the fourth quarter. Emmanuel seemed to make every shot down the stretch and was 27-34 from the charity stripe for the game. "They just made their open shots. We couldn't quite capitalize on some chances we had, and they made us pay by making theirs," Coach
Russ Gregg said in reaction to the final quarter. Elise Coberly's scored 28 points and tallied 16 rebounds. Erskine shot 34.2% for the game and Emmanuel shot 36.1%, but the telling stat is the struggle from 3-point range for Erskine tonight. The Fleet shot 11.1% from deep compared to 35% for Emmanuel.
The Fleet return to action this Saturday when they travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Valkyries of Converse College. Game Time is set for 2:00 P.M.
