DUE WEST- On a rainy night at Huggins Field on a soggy turf the University of Mount Olive men's soccer team outlasted Erskine 2-1 in a physical tough battle between conference foes. Erskine struck ten minutes into the contest to provide the Fleet with an early 1-0 lead. Senior
Luke Boyce hit a beautiful cross that fellow senior
Ross Henderson headed at UMO goalie Nick Bernsdorf. The Trojan goalie deflected the shot right to a waiting
Joe O'Neill, who buried it in the back of the net. 8 minutes later UMO got to respond. A direct kick from midfield into the box was inadvertantly touched by a hand of a Fleet defender. UMO's Dauda Sanoh executed a successful penalty kick to tie the match at 1-1. Eleven minutes into the 2nd half the Trojan's Cooper Gaypia stole a Fleet pass outside the box on the left side and mashed a left footed shot at Erskine goalie
CJ Cluck which Cluck could not handle, putting the Trojans up 2-1. The final 33 minutes saw both teams with reasonable chances but neither seriously threatened. Cluck and Bernsdorf both played well for their respective teams in net. Cluck had six saves in the match. The loss drops Erskine to 3-4-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in Conference Carolinas play.
