Box Score Due West, S.C. – With four players scoring in double-figures, the Erskine Flying Fleet (18-11) topped the Barton Bulldogs (14-16) 74 to 63 Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship Tournament at Belk Arena.
After leading by three points at halftime, the Erskine Flying took the control of the game with a 7-0 run midway through the second half. Senior
Tara Potter (Charlotte, NC, Bandys High School) sparked the run completing an old-fashion three-point play and sophomores
Kristin Giles (Union, SC, Union County High School) and
Raygon Hendrix (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) both hit two free throws each.
Erskine capitalized at the free throw line, going 23 of 29 from the charity strip. Hendrix was the main beneficiary, going 8 of 10 from the line.
Barton never threatened again as the Fleet maintained their double-figure lead to win 74 to 63.
Senior
Andrienne Bannerman (Wilmington, NC, Pender High School) led the Fleet with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Giles finished with 13 points while Potter contributed 12 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Sophomore
Naomi Stuger (Marietta, GA, Kell High School) came off the bench to contribute 13 points, 2 assists, 2 blocks and a steal.
The 18 wins are the most for the Flying Fleet since the 1983-84 season.
The Fleet advance to play #1 seed Limestone College this Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m.
