Box Score Wilson, N.C. – With just two games remaining, the Erskine Flying Fleet (15-11, 13-7) picked up an important conference win, knocking off the Bulldogs of Barton College (13-14, 12-8) 73 to 69 tonight in women's basketball action at Wilson Gymnasium. With the win, Erskine remains in contention to host in the first round of the conference tournament to begin in two weeks.
With neither team having a lead greater than eight points, it is no surprise the game's outcome was not decided until the final minute. After Barton's Kaila Lea drilled a 3-point basket to draw within two points, Barton fouled Erskine's
Raygon Hendrix (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) with 22 seconds remaining. Hendrix made both free throws to achieve the game's final score of 73 to 69.
Sophomore
Ashley Espinosa (Reading, PA, Governor Mifflin High School) led all-scorers with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Espinosa went 10 of 21 from the floor, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range. Senior
Tara Potter (Charlotte, NC, Bandys High School) tallied 20 points along with 7 rebounds.
The Bulldogs got 20 points from both Shatisha Dukes and Lea. Dukes also pulled down a game-high 13 boards to earn the "famed" double-double. Teammate Tiffany Webster contributed 12 points.
Erskine plays their last two regular season games at home. This Saturday Erskine hosts in-state conference foe North Greenville University at 2:00 p.m. with their last game occurring next Tuesday against Emmanuel.
