Tara Potter (Charlotte, NC, Bandys High School) tallied a double-double to pace the Erskine Flying Fleet (11-9, 9-5) past the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University (6-11, 4-10) 60 to 52 tonight in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action at Belk Arena.
Potter scored a game-high 14 points while leading the Fleet to a commanding 59 to 40 advantage on the boards with a season-best 14 rebounds. Fellow senior
Andrienne Bannerman (Wilmington, NC, Pender High School) came off the bench to contribute 9 points.
Erskine mounted an 8-0 run to close out the first period and take a one point lead at 29 to 28 into the locker room. Sophomore
Raygon Hendrix (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) led the charge, scoring six of eight points during the run. After going coast-to-coast after a SWU miss, Hendrix converted four free throws in the final minute to give the Fleet the lead at intermission.
Erskine never trailed in the second half, slowly building their lead to as many as 13 points before settling on the final score of 60 to 52. Potter scored eight of her fourteen points in second half while fellow front court member
Naomi Stuger (Marietta, GA, Kell High School) had seven points. Stuger finished with eight points and six rebounds.
SWU had three players finish in double-figures, led by Christiana Perkins' 13 points and 10 rebounds. Cayse Branyon had 12 points while Shyla Coleman tallied 10 points.
Erskine will seek their fourth win in five tries this Saturday against the visiting Trojans of the University of Mount Olive (8-12, 6-8). Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
