Box Score Due West, S.C. – Despite a subpar shooting night, the Erskine Flying Fleet (8-7, 6-3) topped in-state conference foe Converse College (1-10, 0-8) 62 to 49 tonight in women's basketball action at Belk Arena. The Fleet shot a measly 29.8% (14-47) from the floor tonight, well below their season average of 41.1%.
After leading by three at intermission, Erskine found themselves trailing by ten points midway through the second period. Erskine overcame the deficit by scoring fifteen unanswered points, eleven of those points coming at the free throw line. Erskine went 31 of 45 from the line on the evening.
Erskine built their lead to double-digits over the closing minutes to win 62 to 49.
The Fleet were led by
Ashley Espinosa (Reading, PA, Governor Mifflin High School) and
Kristin Giles (Union, SC, Union County High School) who finished with 14 and 12 points respectively.
For the Valkyries, Margo Dill tallied double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Erskine travels to Tigerville, South Carolina, on Saturday to battle North Greenville University. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
