Box Score Greenwood, S.C. – Despite a career-high 30 points from sophomore guard
Ashley Espinosa (Reading, PA, Governor Mifflin High School), the Erskine Flying Fleet (2-3) fell 104 to 73 to the Bobcats of Lander University (2-2) this afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action at Horne Arena.
The Lander defense forced 26 Fleet turnovers resulting in 31 points, including 18 points in the first half, helping Lander shoot 42.5% from the field compared to Erskine's 30.6%.
After failing to score on their first ten possessions, Espinosa and
Naomi Stuger (Marietta, GA, Kell High School) came off the bench to spark the Fleet offense. Combined Espinosa and Stuger tallied 43 of the Fleet's 73 points. Both players pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Fleet on the boards as well.
Senior
Andrienne Bannerman (Wilmington, NC, Pender High School) was the only Fleet starter to reach double-figures, scoring 15 points with 5 rebounds.
Lander had five players reach double-digits, led by Breshay Johnson's 23 points and 8 rebounds. Aarika Judge filled the stat sheet handing out 10 assists while pulling down a game-high 9 rebounds and scoring 7 points.
Erskine travels to Central, South Carolina, on Tuesday to play Southern Wesleyan University before taking a short break for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Game time on Tuesday is set for 5:30 p.m.
