Box Score Tigerville, S.C. – Playing in the Conference Carolinas-Peach Belt Challenge, the Erskine Flying started their season with an impressive 75 to 59 victory over Francis Marion University at Hayes Gymnasium on the campus of North Greenville University.
Erskine senior
Tara Potter (Charlotte, NC, Bandys High School) scored the game's first six points giving the Flying Fleet the lead they would never relinquish. The Fleet led by as many as twelve points in the opening period before settling on a 39 to 32 lead at intermission.
The Fleet opened the second period by extending their lead to double-digits on a 3-point basket by
Kristin Giles (Union, SC, Union County High School) and two jumpers by Potter. The Fleet stretched their lead to by as many as twenty-one points before settling on the 75 to 59 victory.
Sophomore transfer
Ashley Espinosa (Reading, PA, Governor Mifflin High School) began her Erskine career in grand fashion, scoring a game-high 21 points. Giles finished with 15 points while Potter and
Raygon Hendrix (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) tallied 12 points each. Junior
Andrienne Bannerman (Wilmington, NC, Pender High School) grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.
For the Patriots, Briana Burgins and Stephanie Brown recorded a double-doubles on the night. Burgins had 12 points and a game-high 17 rebounds while Brown scored a team-high 15 points with 14 rebounds.
Erskine will play the University of North Georgia on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
