Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet (7-5, 3-2) waltzed past the Valkyries of Converse College (0-13, 0-5) 76 to 67 today in Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball action at Belk Arena.
With the game tied at 12 to 12 early in first half, Erskine used an 8-2 run to grab the lead they would never relinquish. Freshman
Ashley Mull (Belmont, NC, South Point High School) hit a 3-point shot from the corner and fellow freshman
Raygon Hendrix (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) followed up with an old-fashion 3-point play to stake the Fleet to the lead. Sophomore
Jordan Whitesides (Gastonia, NC, Gaston Day School) capped off the run with a short jumper in the lane.
Erskine stretched their lead to 12 by halftime as Hendrix drilled a deep 3-point shot at the buzzer.
In the second half, Erskine stretched their lead to as many as 23 before settling on the nine point victory.
Hendrix led all-scorers with 17 points while teammates
Kristin Giles (Union, SC, Union County High School) and
Andrienne Bannerman (Wilmington, NC, Pender High School) each finished with 15 points. Freshman
Naomi Stuger (Marietta, GA, Kell High School) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to lead the Fleet on the boards.
For the Valkyries, Samira Gillcrese earned a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Jenna White finished with 10 points while Avery Winchester came off the bench to contribute 11 points.
Erskine steps out of conference to face Allen University on Monday before returning back home on Wednesday to play the University of Mount Olive Trojans on Wednesday. Game time for Monday is set for 6:00 p.m.
