Box Score Due West, S.C. – Erskine concluded their season with a 65 to 53 thumping of in-state conference rival Converse College in women's basketball action at Belk Arena. Freshman
Tori Whittenberg (Mauldin, SC, Mauldin High School) hit 7 of 10 from behind the arc in route to a career-high 35 points, just three points away from tying Erskine's single game scoring record set by Porsha Morgan against Barton College in 2008.
Converse ended the opening half on a 6-0 run to take a 33 to 28 lead into the locker room at intermission. Samira Gillcrese scored four of the Valkyries 6 points, the first basket coming on a put back followed by a jumper from the free throw line.
Erskine quickly tied the game to start the second half on a 3-point basket by
Lindsey Weidenaar (Evans, GA, Lakeside High School)and a put back by
Tara Potter (Sherrills Ford, NC, Bandys High School).
A few minutes later Whittenberg scored 10 unanswered points, including six points on back-to-back 3-point baskets, to give the Fleet a 48 to 39 lead.
Erskine never trailed again and won the game 65 to 53.
In her second start of the season, sophomore
Raven Jordan (Wilmington, NC, Wilmington Christian Academy) scored 10 points, pulled down 9 rebounds while handing out 4 assists. Junior
Jana Dixon (Conyers, GA, Heritage High School) led the Fleet on the boards with 10 rebounds.
For the Valkyries, Gillcrese earned a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Katy Vaughn scored a team-high 14 points and Brooke Garrison contributed 13 points.
