Lander knocks off Erskine 79-70

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Lander University knocked off the Erskine Flying Fleet 79 to 70 tonight in non-conference women's basketball action at Belk Arena.

Trailing 57 to 55, Erskine failed to score on their next eight possessions allowing Lander to build a thirteen point lead.  Erskine pulled back to within five points on a layup by freshman Raygon Hendrix (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Preparatory School) late in the game but Lander converted their free throws to win 79 to 70.

Erskine struggled from long range, making only 2 of 19 three-point attempts while Lander converted on 6 of 17.  Erskine missed all ten attempts in the second half.

Hendrix led the Fleet with a career-high 17 points and 6 steals.  Junior Tara Potter (Charlotte, NC, Bandys High School) earned her first double-double with 16 points and a season-high 14 rebounds while Marnasha Eugene (Lithonia, GA, Stephenson High School) had 11 points.

Lander's Kayla West poured in a game-high 29 points while Alyssia Watkins and Ashleigh Zandi had 13 and 12 points respectively.  Ty'hesha Reynolds came off the bench to contribute 15 points for the Bearcats.

Erskine will play USC-Aiken Tuesday night before departing on Thanksgiving break.
