Erskine loses on the road to Belmont Abbey

Box Score Belmont, N.C. – The Erskine women’s basketball team lost on the road to Belmont Abbey 65-46 tonight in their conference opener.

The loss drops the Flying Fleet to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference while the Crusaders open their season at 1-0 overall and in conference.

After Erskine’s Chelsea Frazier (Dillon, SC, Dillon High School) hit a jumper to pull the Fleet within three, the Crusaders scored nine unanswered points to stretch their lead into twelve at 25-13 and took a 33-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, Erskine crept within 8 points twice before Belmont Abbey extended their lead back to double-digits to win 65-46.

Freshman Tori Whittenberg (Mauldin, SC, Mauldin High School) scored a new career-high 14 points while handing out 3 assists with just one turnover to lead the young Flying Fleet team.  Frazier contributed 12 points and 3 assists while sophomore post player Tara Potter (Sherrills Ford, NC, Bandys High School) pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds.

Melisa Foures led the Crusaders with 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Erskine will get a short break with the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action at home against Queens University on Tuesday, November 27th.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
