Powell scores career-high 19 points in Erskine win over Allen Univ.

Box Score Due West, SC - A hot Erskine Flying Fleet team kicked off their 3-game home stand by storming past the Yellow Jackets of Allen University 83 to 65 this afternoon in non-conference women’s basketball action at Belk Arena.  Erskine has now won four of their last five games to improve to 6-9 on the season.

After exchanging the first two baskets, Erskine ran off seven unanswered points on a three-point basket by senior guard Porsha Morgan (Columbus, GA, LaGrange Academy) sandwiched by layups by senior Elizabeth Tatum (Glennville, GA, Pinewood Christian Academy) and sophomore Jana Dixon (Conyers, GA, Heritage High School) to grab a 9-2 lead that they would never relinquish.  Erskine continued to apply the pressure offensively pushing their lead to 18 points at one point before setting for a 39-27 lead at halftime.  Erskine shot a sizzling 46.7% in the first half, including 6 of 11 from behind the arc.

In the second half, all twelve Erskine players played as the Fleet stretched their lead to twenty-seven points at one point.  Erskine won the game by 18 points at 83 to 65.

Erskine again got an excellent game from their starting front court.  Tatum earned her second “double-double” of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds and Dixon just missed her own “double-double” with a game-high 13 rebounds and 8 points.   Morgan scored a game-high 23 points and sophomore Rosa Powell (Lilburn, GA, Brookwood High School)provided a spark off the bench, hitting 5 of 8 three-point shots, to finish with a career-high 19 points.

For the Yellow Jackets, Katrece Daniels came off the bench to score 23 points on 8 of 9 shooting from the floor, including a blistering 5 of 6 from long range.  Alexis Smith added 13 points for the Yellow Jackets.

Erskine hosts new Conference Carolinas member King College on Tuesday.  Game time is 5:30 p.m.
