Box Score Belmont, NC – Erskine concluded their 3-game road trip with a 67 to 59 win over the Crusaders of Belmont-Abbey College in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action at the Wheeler Center tonight.
Sophomore
Jana Dixon (Conyers, GA, Heritage High School) earned her fourth “double-double” of the season, pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds and scoring 14 points. Dixon currently leads the conference in rebounds, averaging over 10 rebounds per game. Senior
Porsha Morgan (Columbus, GA, LaGrange Academy) led all scorers with 22 points along with 6 rebounds. Junior
Sha'Niqua Whitley (Columbia, SC, Ridge View High School) added to 13 points with a team-high 4 assists.
For the Abbey, both Paula Regalado and Alyx Ingram scored 12 points while Candace Fox had 11 points. Ingram also had a team-high 7 rebounds and Fox had 4 assists.
Erskine improves to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in conference. The Abbey slips to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in conference.
After taking the lead after the opening minutes of the game, Erskine built their lead to ten points on a 12-2 run to lead 18-8 midway through the first half. Sophomore
Lindsey Weidenaar (Evans, GA, Lakeside High School) led the charge with two 3-point baskets.
The Abbey whittled away at the Fleet lead to eventually tie the game at 26-26 with three minutes remaining in the opening half. But the Fleet closed out the half on an 8-2 run to take a 34 to 28 lead into the locker room. Morgan ignited the run with an old fashion three-point play followed by a 3-point bucket.
Erskine maintained their lead throughout the second half. Twice the Abbey cut the Fleet lead to one point but both times the Fleet rebuilt their lead. Erskine won the game 67 to 59.
Erskine steps out of conference play this Saturday to host in-state rival Allen University. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
