Lady Fleet cruises past Coker 58-43

The Erskine women’s basketball team took down the Coker College Cobras

58-43 in Conference Carolinas play Tuesday night at Belk Arena.

The Fleet was led by Jean Marie Harris (Lancaster, SC, Indian Land High School)with 17 points. Coker guard Jasmine Alston added
12 in the losing effort for the visitors.

A relatively close game during the first half, Erskine surged to 33-23 halftime lead. The late scoring drive was highlighted by a jumper from Porsha Morgan (Columbus, GA, LaGrange Academy) at the buzzer. The Fleet maintained their advantage through the second half but the game was sealed with 2:18 left when Lauren Stewart (Hartwell, GA, Hart County High School) grabbed a steal and hit a subsequent pair of free throws to give Erskine a 57-43 lead.

The last home game for the Flying Fleet saw Morgan and Elizabeth Tatum (Glennville, GA, Pinewood Christian Academy) each score 11. Freshman Jana Dixon (Conyers, GA, Heritage High School) added eight rebounds in only 14 minutes of play to pace Erskine, who improves to 13-12 on the season with a 11-8 record in Conference Carolinas.

The Cobras drop to 3-15 in conference and 3-21 overall.

Erskine will be back in action Saturday afternoon at Pfeiffer.
