Knights Ground Fleet

Laurinburg, NC- Erskine women’s lacrosse finished their spring break tour Saturday afternoon with a loss to Conference Carolinas opponent Saint Andrews 20-2.  The loss dropped the Fleet to 0-14 overall and 0-4 in conference play while the Knights improved to 4-5 and 2-1.

Saint Andrews jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead within the first five minutes of play before Erskine freshman Von McKenzie drew a foul and converted a free-position shot for her first goal of the match.

The Knights then turned up the pressure, going on a 9-0 run before McKenzie struck again.  This time, McKenzie received a pass from fellow freshman Hillary Henry and again found the back of the net for her second and final goal of the game.  Saint Andrews answered quickly and took a 13-2 lead into the halftime break.  The Knights out-shot the Fleet 13-3 in the first half.

The second period belonged to the Knights. They held the Flying Fleet to only three shot attempts while they recorded 16 shots of their own resulting in seven second half goals as they cruised to a 20-2 victory.

Erskine was out-shot 43-6, and had 31 turnovers to Saint Andrews’ 20.  Erskine goalkeeper Kaitlyn Overley played the entire game and picked up 17 saves on the day.

Erskine will return to their home turf this week as they take on Lees-McRae College on Wednesday afternoon.  Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
