Erskine wins on the road 77-74

Brevard, NC – After trailing by three at halftime, Erskine came back to win on the road 77 to 74 over Brevard College in non-conference women’s basketball action at Boshamer Gymnasium.  Erskine picks up their first win of the season to move to 1-4 while Brevard slips to 4-5.

Trailing by nine points with eight minutes remaining , Erskine closed out the first half on an impressive 29 to 13 run to climb to within three points at 41 to 38.

Erskine carried the hot hand into the second half shooting an amazing 59% for the half.  Senior Neci Allen (North Augusta, SC, North Augusta High School) led the Fleet charge going 5 for 6 from the field and scoring 14 of her 16 points in the second half.

After tying the game twice, Erskine’s Christine Phan (Savannah, GA, Windsor Forest High School) nailed a 3-point shot to give Erskine their first lead since the opening minutes of the game.  Erskine pushed their lead to as many as eight points before Brevard came back to tie the game at 69-69 on Micheala Watkins’ layup with just over two minutes left to play.  Porsha Morgan (Columbus, GA, LaGrange Academy) sealed the victory for the Fleet in the final minute by hitting a jump shot and converting two free throws.

Morgan led all scorers with a game-high 20 points while Elizabeth Tatum (Glennville, GA, Pinewood Christian Academy) had 12 points.

Brevard was led by Holli Flippo with 19 points while Lindsay Brendle had 18 points.

Erskine travels to St. Andrews Presbyterian College this Saturday.  Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
