Bristol, TN – The Flying Fleet split their first two games of the King University Invitational, defeating Montevallo 3-2 in the first game and then falling to Tusculum 3-0 in the night cap.
In game one, Erskine would jump out to an early 2-0 lead winning 25-20 and 25-10. The Falcons would then rally to win the next two sets, setting up a winner take all fifth set. Trailing 10-7 in the final set, the Flying Fleet would respond with eight straight points to take the set and the victory.
Kristen Dodge finished the match with 31 assists, 11 digs and nine kills, while
Marissa Greenough had 10 kills and seven digs.
Kendall Kirk led the Fleet with 17 digs.
In the second match the Pioneers came out and won the first set 25-18, but would have to fight off the Fleet to win the next two sets 25-22 and 27-25. Dodge had 36 assists with 12 digs, while
Sami Harting and
Payton Duncan had 14 and 11 kills respectively and Kirk had 13 digs.
Erskine returns to the court tomorrow as they play Lincoln Memorial at 12:30 and Newberry at 5:30.
