Hole-in-One the buzz at the Erskine Open

Greenwood, S.C. – Brad Enlow sank a hole-in-one to win the $10,000 prize sponsored by Palmetto Insurance at the Erskine Open, a part of Erskinefest, Erskine's 175th Anniversary Celebration.

Enlow's investment of $97 in a used set of golf clubs has paid off handsomely for the Erskine senior.  Enlow used a 4 hybrid driver on the third hole of the Willow Course at Hunters Creek Country Club.

"I knew I had a good line on the hole, but with the sun's glare off the water, I couldn't tell exactly where the ball landed.  I thought I had hit it long but my teammate Logan Galliher said he thought it landed short," stated Enlow.

When the foursome approached the hole, Enlow searched in vain for his ball while his teammates went to Galliher's ball, which was fairly close to the hole.  Teddy Heiser, Asst. Baseball Coach, found Enlow's ball in the hole when he went to pull the tape measure for the closest to the pin contest.

Even Enlow did not believe it at first.  "I pulled Logan aside and said, 'man, please tell me if you are joking with me, because I'm about to make a real jerk of myself calling everyone I know."  It was not until Atlee Pearson, the Fleet's pitching coach, dialed Adam Weyer, the Tournament Director, to inform him of the hole-in-one that Enlow believed he had done it.

Despite Enlow's money winning stroke, his team finished third overall, three strokes behind the winners.  The foursome of Kale Green, Trent Goodman, Rennie Poole, and Tony Terry won the tournament, firing 57 in the Captain's Choice format.  Finishing second, a stroke behind the winning group, was the Erskine Athletic Department's stacked team of Mark Peeler, V.P of Intercollegiate Athletics, Patrick Wilson, Asst. Golf Coach, Kevin Nichols, Head Baseball Coach, and Cole Tallman, Head Men's Volleyball Coach.

Enlow's hole-in-one was the buzz of the 40th Erskine Open.  The news circulated quickly through the 112 member field, the largest turnout in recent history at the Open.  The Erskine Open is played each year to help raise money for the Erskine Athletic Department.

Weyer had this to say about this year's Open, "Overall the tournament was a huge success and a great way to start the 175th celebration of Erskine College.  We had our largest turnout in years which, not only helps the Flying Fleet Club with our fundraising efforts, but also created a great atmosphere on the golf course.  And to add to that excitement was the hole-in-one shot by Brad Enlow that earned him $10,000. Palmetto Insurance sponsors this challenge every year and this was the first year that someone actually won."

Ranny Rankin, owner of Palmetto Insurance, stated, "We are excited for Brad.  We have sponsored this hole for 9 or 10 years now and it is the first-time someone has ever won it."

In addition to Palmetto Insurance, the Erskine Athletic Department is also appreciative to Ro-Mac Signs, Sports Medicine Center of Self Regional Hospital, Due West Corporation, Aramark, and Jim Christopher Investments for their sponsorship of the Erskine Open.
